'Ruidoso' as we know it is more than just the one community. Today, the Ruidoso area is really comprised of Ruidoso, Ruidoso Downs, Alto, The Ranches at Sonterra, Copper Ridge, Rainmaker, Bonito, Nogal and more outlying areas of interest including Capitan, Lincoln and the communities of the Hondo Valley. Each with its unique character and each separated by the visions of the southern Rocky Mountains.

Beyond the vistas granted by our mountain, is the daily life in Ruidoso. What should one expect? Ruidoso is an area of pleasant contradictions. Snow in April and May and sunny golf days in December. Mostly still a quiet community with great schools and an active retiree community, Ruidoso can also be punctuated by busy weekends and holidays. On the annual calendar one will see events from local parades, to the Cowboy Symposium, to golf tournaments, to Octoberfest and the Mescalero Indian Dances.

Add to those events Ruidoso Downs Race Track, the Spencer Theater, the Inn of the Mountain Gods Casino, Ski Apache and the vastness of the Lincoln National Forest and White Mountain Wilderness and one has enough things to do to stay buys - or one can just relax in front of the fire and read a good book.

Ruidoso is a joy to experience and a wonderful place to live.
